The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card is issued by American Express and is aimed at customers with a good credit rating who want the benefits of the Starwood hotels rewards program. The rewards program allows customers to earn points for money spent at participating Starwood locations. Customers can earn further points on eligible purchases made via the Starwood Preferred Guest program. Bonus points are awarded after the first purchase made with the card. There is no limit on the number of points that can be earned and they do not expire if the card remains active within a one-year period. Customers can redeem points for free hotel accommodations and other travel-related rewards, such as air miles. Further benefits include auto rental insurance, discounts on some purchases and travel accident insurance. There is a small annual fee which is waived for the first year and there is a low introductory rate for purchases and balance transfers.
